Here to capture the talent of Toronto's independent urban music artists. From rap/hip hop to spoken word and Rnb to pop, artist in Toronto's music scene will be the topic of this blog. Through the heart and passions of dreams and by the name of Toronto, urban music is brought to you.
Got word from the homie Infu himself about his EPK. I watched it and really wanted to show some support. All I have to say is that Infu is a really down to earth dude and you could tell that he is truly dedicated in what he does. A lot of people don't really appreciate or wont really take into account up and coming artists, but we all know music is a big part of life. From watching Infu's press kit, I can see he's not just about the fame or trying to be like someone else, but that this is what he does regardless of where it gets him. Some people are just born to do certain things, for Infu it's pretty clear that being an artist on the music scene is the destiny he's made for himself. I'm just happy that things are looking good for him and that he's repping Toronto.

I was able to speak with Toronto's own talented up and coming Producer/rap artist I.Q. to find out about his new single Marty McFly, which is off of his mix tape "10 second" and also, I wanted get him to tell you who he was. Here's what he had to say
Who
is I.Q.?
Reason
why I’ve chosen I.Q. was actually kind of an accident at first. I chose it
originally because it was my initials and then when I was 13 I really started writing
a lot as well as doing production on the computer and on the side just reading
a lot about anything just giving myself as much knowledge as possible. Then a
few friends and people just started calling me IQ as a joke because they saw me
as a smart dude or what not and I kept that because it was also my initials. It
worked out for the best. Ultimately, I ended up choosing IQ as my name mainly
because it represents me in every way and it’s my initials of course lol.
From the
time I really started doing music which was 13 till now has been a crazy ride
of ups and downs. Grinding is the word that comes in mind because I’ve been
doing nothing but working hard and trying to improve my craft as a producer and
rapper. I’ve worked with various artists in North America as well as
internationally and have nothing but love for what I do, and I’m always looking
to improve and perfect my craft.
Are
there any projects you are currently working on?
Currently
I’m working on a project of my own which is my mix tape “10 Seconds” and that
should be out by summer time. I’ve been working on that for quite some time and
have been keeping it very intimate in the sense it’s something I’ve put a lot into.
To add to that, I am currently working on another project with an artist of
Insomniac Music Group, who goes by the name The Maze, and he and I are working
closely to get his project out. So there are a lot coming from Insomniac Family
to be honest...you guys will just kind of have to be patient and wait for it to
drop. As for shows, they’ll be posted
soon, I don’t have any exact dates as of yet but definitely be on the lookout
for me and shows.
Tell usabout your new single Marty
McFly
This new
single Marty McFly actually just came from the movie back to the future lol. I
was actually just in the studio and it was right after watching the movie, that
I started working on this beat. At the same time I was kind of on that beastie
boys tip lol, at least at the moment, so I thought to myself I want to create
something very fresh and original and right now hip hop is more bubble gum. I
thought to myself “you know... I’d like to do something outside the box with a
different sound”. So long story short I created Marty McFly and had Maze, and
Mars Paris to hop on it and we came up with a solid track.
What
is your main goal as an up and coming artist here in Toronto?
My goal
is to build an empire in plain simple words. To create music that others have
never heard and help as many people through our music and just have a good
time. I could honestly go on with reasons because it’s a long list but I’ll just
say one thing and that is: Insomniac Music Group is a family of elite with
minds like no others and flows like no others. We are coming to make history.
Just wait and see.

I was given the opportunity to speak with Toronto's own talented upcoming rap artist TechRymes and he had some humble words to share. Allow me to tell you who TechRymes is and share with you what he had to say.
Who is TechRymes?
I'm just a positive person and pretty much an open book. I keep it 100 with people and what you see is what you get. I was born in Lagos, Nigeria but I have lived in Dallas, Fort Worth, Ottawa, Toronto and currently reside in Brampton. I started rapping to imitate Canadian voices and get rid of my accent but I've carried on because I feel I have a good mantra that needs to be heard by the youth to emphasize being yourself and not following other people. As an artist, I try to push real life themes into my songs but I still have the fun tracks as well. I speak about being a leader in the song "Anarchy Republic" and I address the pessimists on my song "You Mad", I digress from the swag bullshit because it’s all materialistic and isn't worth much. I got the name TechRymes from people saying my rhymes were really technical and perplex back in the days so I ran with it. As of now I am focused on completing my undergraduate degree before I make any deep moves with music because music will always be here, I will always have my talent but education is now.
Are there any projects you are currently working on?
I'm currently working on my next mixtape 'Going Hard Boulevard". It is a mixtape filled with bangers and hot songs that you can ride too and go hard with haha. I've also completed a mixtape with my group called "Infinity & Beyond" and this music is out of this world we all bring different things to the table.
What success have you seen on previous works and projects?
My first official mixtape "Time For Elevation" garnered over 20K downloads so I'm pretty amped about that. I haven't checked up on it in a bit but it's on my website. Also, I got the opportunity to work with one of my favorite artists Freck Billionaire from Street Fam. We should have more work coming for the people and they know to expect bars! Currently I am now part of his group "CBL Stars". I was also part of a three man collective called Bermuda Triangle with Suspect & D-Pryde we had a couple bangers and a slew of collaborations that you can find sporadically over the internet.
What is your main goal as an up and coming artist here inToronto?
My main goal is not to be signed to a record deal, but rather to own a label ora company that produces music for charity and corporations... and this goal will be accomplished, as I have already started assembling a team. So look out for me and my squad Infinity Fam as we change the dynamics of this music industry and keep going hard. Hit me up on twitter @techrymes or on my website http://www.techrymes.com/
Toronto's very own talented emcee Infu gave me the chance to speak with him and it was a very pleasentful conversation. Let me tell you who Infu is and the things he had to say.
Who is Infu?
Infu which comes from my last name
(Infusino) is the product of two years of grinding in the music game. Being
from Toronto was thought to be a disadvantage for a long time in the hip hop
world, but as we near our pinnacle I'm feeling more excited than ever. Although
I'm only 24 years old I feel as if I have an "old man mind" and that
reflects in my music. I focus on lyricism and substance in my music, more of a
classic emcee rather than a trendy rapper. I've seen both sides of the coin in
such a short time; being a Canadian rapper is judged upon enough, imagine
being a white - Canadian rapper. The whole racial thing exists but at the end
of the day people respect and appreciate talent, so if you bring it no matter
what your complexion is, people will feel you. Now that I've had some
successful mix tapes and sold out a few shows I feel we’re beginning to
generate a buzz which is only expanding.
Are there any projects you are
currently working on?
Right now I'm currently working on
new music daily with my cousin and Producer/Engineer Zanets. We're in the
studio everyday just banking tracks trying to find the wave for the next
project. We know where we want to go with it, we just need to decide how we
want to get there.
As far as performances I'm actually
hosting Tattoo Rock Parlour on Thursday April 5th (Tomorrow). Right after that
show I'm off to New York on April 10 with Zanets to take care of some business,
I can't really get into it, but I will say its music related. I'll be doing a
meet and greet in NY as well. Later on in the summer I'll also be opening up
for Kid Ink on June 24 at The Opera House. I’m sure a couple more; regardless
you'll be hearing a lot from me.
What success have you seen on
previous works and projects?
My first release was called Swine Fu
and was dropped in 2010. It was a sold out jam and a lot of big people came out
to support the movement. My second mixtape in 2011 called Big Fuzie did much of
the same. Another sold out release party and heavily played mixtape release.
Features on the tapes include: Saukrates, Rich Kidd, Mayhem Morearty, Jonny
Roxx, etc... many of which I have gotten to perform with. I've also had guests
like Page and P Reign at my mixtape release parties and gotten to connect with
some heavy people in the industry through shows and events. (Redman, French
Montana, Cory Gunz, etc.)
What is your main goal as an up and
coming artist here in Toronto? What am I looking for?
I'm always looking to move forward
in my career and progress as an artist but I make sure to always stick to my
goal and create good music. Whether that lands me a record deal or in a liquor
store parking lot, I just want to make good music. I've worked with the
majority of the artists I want to work with in Toronto, but I want to move
forward and branch beyond our border. Who knows bruh? That's a good
question... I just want distribution support, I mean we make our own music, have
our own studio, in-house beats, engineer, video, we just need distribution and
marketing. Whoever can facilitate that... I'm willing to at least talk to.
